Community Workshop, Protest and Submissions to Parliament on National Environmental Management: Air Quality Bill.

Cape Town, South Africa: groundWork, in
collaboration with Contact Trust will be hosting a workshop
on 1 - 2 February 2004 at the Deisa Conference centre in
Cape Town. The aim of the workshop will be to develop a
combined submission on the National Environmental Management:
Air Quality Bill from civil society organisations that are
affected by industrial pollution. The workshop will be bringing
together civil society organisations from Sasolburg, Boipatong,
Richards Bay, South Durban, and Table View.
The combined submission will accompany the individual submissions
from each organisation and will be handed to the Portfolio
Committee on environment at the National Environmental Management:
Air Quality Bill hearings being held on 3, 4, and 10 February
2004. These submissions will be available on Monday evening
from groundWork.
On Monday 2 February 2004, a protest will be held in front
of Caltex in Table View from 4-5pm. Communities will be
showing their support for the Table View Residents Association's
struggle against air pollution in the area.
